Roy Disney died today.
I remember watching him on certain Disney featurettes, the ones they'd play on VHS tapes, right before the main feature. Hearing him talk about animation inspired me to take classes for two summers. I told him this when I met him summer of... 1998? It was Disney World's 25th Anniversary and he was there shaking hands with all the kids, many of them who assumed he was Walt.
He never seemed as creepy as that other Disney honcho, Michael Eisner, who knew how to turn on the charm, but only in front of the cameras. RIP, Roy.

I'm posting this at dashingdeviant's...general request for people to call out Hazel/Cedar, their abuser, when folks see hir work cited by others in anti-oppressive/anti-abusive contexts. Hazel/Cedar is well known for hir blog "Taking Up Too Much Space," which I am not linking here as that would be counterproductive to the point of this post. I have filtered this post, but dashingdeviant is ok with public call-outs. I haven't asked about this directly, but I imagine they would also be ok with others reposting something like this post.
Below are some quotes from their blog anarchafemme.
"Hir work still gets cited all over the place, by people who know the call out I’ve made, and when a call out occurred in a feminist space, I got to see rape apologism saying that we shouldn’t judge work based on the author’s actions, when hir has written on consent and against transphobia. This occurred in an online feminist space. "
"I’m too afraid to name hir this publicly beyond writing this in a way that people who know – and there are a lot of them – know who I’m talking about. Please, when someone cites hir, links to hir, let people know that ze’s a serial perpetrator of abuse, ze is a rapist, that ze has absolutely no interest in being accountable. And don’t cite hir, don’t invite hir in as an authority on things, because every time ze is cited as an authority, and I see it, that does me harm. Every time ze comments somewhere, I just shut down. Every time someone defends hir based on hir work or their interactions with hir, I shut down. I’m sorry, good people aren’t serial abusers, good people aren’t serial rapists. And I feel like every time I say something, I get torn into again and pushed to the side."

ZERO
Children of Men (what? Seriously? Well, if this was an oversight, or if you thought other people would list it, and you want to add it, it can be like that thing on your taxes where you check a box to add $1 to elections but it does not affect the amount you pay.)
DISALLOWED
Himalaya (doc series) Band o Brothers Th Wire
NOTABLE DIRECTORS (this is anecdotal - please suggest others)
Abbas Kiarostami Zhang Ke Jia th Coens Claire Denis K. Kurosawa Lynch Haneke Cronenberg Tarantino
Now, you get:
- Ten yes votes (this is FOR MOVIES NOT ON YOUR ORIGINAL LIST. DO NOT VOTE FOR MOVIES TWICE.) - Two no votes. In case there's something you really disagree with. This counts as "minus one" vote. - One "special" - a movie that you really want to promote that was on your list and got only one or maybe two votes. Basically, your favorite under-appreciated film of the decade. If you use this, you have to do a little write-up on this film and why it was so special. - You can cajole, state your case, argue, encourage people to watch, link to youtube (or torrents if not otherwise available), etc. here in the comments. Have a ball.
*I forgot to mention--nothing with one vote will make the final list (excepting "specials"). So you shouldn't have to worry about "no"ing those yet. The goal isn't really consensus, anyways, as that always makes for boring lists.
**Do y'all wanna do some consolidating or fight it out on the Bourne films or the Lord of the Ring films?
I will do a follow-up post in early January and post the results maybe a week or two after that, so you have a little time to watch some more films. I hope further film watching will be a part of the process!
Let me know if you have any questions etc. Thanks!
EDIT After this round, everything that has 3 or more votes, and all the "specials", stay on the list. I'm not sure yet about the two-vote movies--it depends on how many there are. We might have to do a supplemental round to cut down the number of those.
